Los Angeles (July 10-15, 2008)

We then left on Thursday, July 10th to take my mom to Los Angeles for her mission. What a road trip! We spent the first night in Mesquite then we went to Ontario the second night. Abby did so well….we sang, played games like hide and seek with Teddy, and occasionally she slept, but mostly we laughed and talked. We took a wrong turn off the freeway in LA which took us over an hour to get back the right way. We eventually got to the LA Temple and Family History Center. We met the Sisters in the FHC and then moved my mom into her studio apartment. It is small, but somehow we got it all to fit. Let’s just hope my mom doesn’t get a companion/roommate for awhile. I still don’t know where she is going to put everything she has now.
We did have some “down time” so we went to Santa Monica Pier for lunch and then we had a day at the beach. Abby loved the water. Abby wanted to jump over the waves and stand while the water hit her legs. Abby really didn’t want to sit in the sand and play. Instead she liked sitting on the blanket with Grammy and hold the umbrella. We didn’t notice until the next day that we all got sunburned…Abby's face and shoulders, Grammy’s back and my neck. I guess we were a little too late in getting the sunblock on.
We helped my mom get settled and then it was time to go. My mom and I did fine until we were at the airport when we both started crying. Abby did great because she was asleep. But Abby did seem a little confused when she woke up and there was no Grammy around. I promised my mom that Abby wouldn’t forget her and I know she won’t because every time she hears Grammy’s voice on the speakerphone, she gives Grammy kisses. It is so sweet and I know it makes Grammy’s day.
We love you mom and know the Lord will bless you while on your mission!
